Important Information about Fioricet

Fioricet is a barbiturate that works by slowing down the nervous system to cause relaxation. It is usually combined with acetaminophen for treating headaches as well as fever. Take each dose of Fioricet with a full glass of water with meals to avoid stomach upset.

Some Precautions

Like other medication, Fioricet may produce some side effects. Light headedness, dizziness, drowsiness, and sleeping disturbances are some of the possible side effects that may occur while using this drug. Notify your doctor if you develop breathing difficulties, rapid orirregular heartbeat, severe stomach pain, and other illness.
           
Take each dose of Fioricet with a full glass of water after meals to avoid stomach upset.  When pain is not adequately treated, never increase your dosage without consulting your doctor.  When you miss a dose schedule, take it as soon as you remember.  Do not take a double dose in order to make up for a missed dose.  

Always discuss with your doctor your medical history, allergies and health problems. Fioricet can be habit-forming, and can be physically and psychologically addictive.

Close supervision by your doctor is needed. Caution is advised if you have diabetes, heart, kidney and/or liver problems. Avoid mixing Fioricet with alcohol.  It may increase intoxication. Alcohol taken during therapy with Fioricet can be very damaging to your liver. It is advised to take extra care when driving or using machinery due to possible effects such as drowsiness and dizziness.  Avoid sleeping pills, antihistamines, sedatives, and tranquilizers to keep you from getting drowsy unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor.

Be sure to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breast-feeding. Fioricet is passed onto breast milk and is not recommended for use by pregnant or nursing women.  The use of Fioricet while breast-feeding may have potential risk to infants. 

Symptoms of Fioricet overdose include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, sweating, seizures, drowsiness, decreased breathing,dizziness or fainting, confusion, an irregular heartbeat, and coma.   

In case of overdose, seek emergency medical attention immediately.
